Erste Ausgabe, selten. – Edward Hartwig (1909-2003) zählt zu den bedeutendsten polnischen Fotografen des 20. Jahrhunderts. Hartwig, 1909 in Moskau geboren, „gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Vertreter der polnischen Fotografie und inspiriert bis heute. Anfangs, durch den Piktorialismus inspiriert, wandte er sich nach dem Studium bei Rudolf Koppitz in Wien vor allem der experimentellen Fotografie zu. Er benutzte die Kamera als künstlerisches Werkzeug einer rein subjektiven Gestaltung. Hartwig verfremdete Bildgegenstände, arbeitete mit Überblendungen und Solarisationen, um die Dynamik und Expessivität seiner Motive zu steigern. Darüber hinaus wählte er intensive Licht- und Schattenkontraste und führte reale und fantastische Bestandteile mit rein abstrakten Elementen zusammen. Um die Vielfältigkeit seiner experimentellen Fotografie zugänglich zu machen, ist der Fokus der Ausstellung vor allem auf die wechselhaften Ausdrucksweisen seiner Kunst gerichtet. Ein Sonderbereich widmet sich dem Thema „Hartwig uns seine Künstler“, bei dem die engen Kontakte zu Künstlerfreunden wie Hendryk Berlewi und Tadeusz Kantor thematisiert und im Werk gespiegelt werden“ (Zur Retrospektive des polnischen Meisterfotografen im Deutschen Fotomuseum Leipzig 2010). – Schutzumschlag am Kapital mit Fehlstelle und am Fuss etwas berieben, sonst gut erhalten. Parr/Badger III, 26 f. (erste Ausg. von 1950). – Seltenes Propaganda-Werk. – „The reconstruction of Europe after World War II was a pressing issue on both sides of the Iron Curtain. In the Eastern Bloc, more devastated by the conflict and less affluent, it took somewhat longer but was more of a reason for national pride. Two photobooks from Poland illustrate this. Both are architectural albums, the earlier volume recording in some detail the rebuilding of the country’s capital after a programme of deliberate and wanton destruction by the Nazis and the other (Nowa Huta, Krakau 1959) documentig the construction of Nowa Huta, the first of Poland’s new postwar planned communities, begun in 1949 and now a suburb of Krackow. The extent of Poland’s suffering is detailed in the Warsaw book, a ‚before and after‘ volume that functions as both a memorial and a progress report. It is a matter of some pride to the Poles that the historic heart of the city, razed by the Nazis, was restored with great faithfulness.
