Duchamp, The bride stripped bare by her bachelors, even

Duchamp, The bride stripped bare by her bachelors, even

Duchamp, Marcel. The bride stripped bare by her bachelors, even. A typographic version by Richard Hamilton of Marcel Duchamp’s Green Box. Translated by George Heard Hamilton. Third publication. Stuttgart, London, Reykjavik, Edition Hansjörg Mayer and New York, Jaap Rietman (1976). 8°. [61] Bl. mit teils ganzs. Abbildungen.

– Sehr gutes Exemplar.
One of 2,500 copies. – ‘The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors, Even’ (also known as ‘The Large Glass’ or ‘Das Große Glas’) is one of the most influential and enigmatic works of art of the 20th century by Marcel Duchamp. He worked on this monumental piece, standing over 2.7 metres tall, in New York from 1915 to 1923, before declaring it ‘definitely unfinished’. To enable the work to be deciphered at all, Duchamp published the so-called ‘Green Box’ (1934) – a box containing 94 unsorted notes, sketches and mathematical calculations that define a distinct, parodic physics and mythology for the functioning of *Das Große Glas*. The work is now housed in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. – A very fine copy.
