Lüdke, Erich (tätig in Berlin ca. 1914-1935). Ferdinand Lassalle – Des Volkstribunen Glück und Ende. Ein Kampf um Liebe, Freiheit und Vaterland. Regie: Rudolf Meinert. Titelrolle: Erich Kaiser-Titz. Scala-Film. Berlin, Kunstanstalt Weylandt (1918).

An extraordinarily rare document—significant both historically and graphically—marking the pivotal transition from the First World War to the November Revolution of 1918. The poster advertises the monumental silent film drama about the German labor leader Ferdinand Lassalle (portrayed by Erich Kaiser-Titz), which held its official premiere on October 25, 1918—just days before the collapse of the German Empire—at the Kammerlichtspiele cinema on Potsdamer Platz. Berlin-based poster artist and graphic designer E. Lüdke masterfully combines the expressive monumentality of late Art Nouveau with the political pathos of the revolutionary era. Lüdke, who also played a supporting role in the film, went on to become one of the most sought-after poster designers of early German cinema during the 1920s and created iconic election posters for the Weimar Republic. This technically brilliant lithograph was produced by the renowned Berlin art printing firm Weylandt, celebrated for its exceptional color depth and opacity. A piece of museum-grade rarity; no copies have been recorded on the art market or at auction in the last fifty years. Only a handful of copies are known to exist worldwide in major public institutions, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (collection catalog entry O110166) and the German Historical Museum (DHM), Berlin. Features the fold marks (cross-fold) typical of period cinema posters distributed to movie theaters, as well as minimal, professionally repaired edge tears outside the main image area; otherwise, it is in excellent condition with vibrant colors.
