Orig.-Ausgabe). – Erste deutsche Ausgabe. – „Sein Buch ‚Pictorial Effect in Photography‘ (1869) gewann großen Einfuß, wurde mehrfach aufgelegt und ins Französische und Deutsche übersetzt. Robinson betonte in diesem Werk nachdrücklich die vielfältigen Möglichkeiten der Fotografie, realistische und künstliche Elemente miteinander zu vereinen, um einen bildnerischen Effekt zu erzielen. Sein Hauptaugenmerk lag eher auf technischen Fähigkeiten und Effekten als auf emotionaler Intensität und Ausdruckskraft. Am Ende seines Lebens war Robinson der geistige Vater einer neuen Stilrichtung der Fotografie geworden – des Piktoralismus, der die fotografischen Bilder ganz bewußt nach den Prinzipien der Malerei komponierte“ (H.
