Lyon had depicted youthful rebellion at an acceptable level: kids who caused a ruckus at the weekend but usually turned up for work again on Monday morning (albeit looking rather rough). Clark, on the other hand, portrayed youthful alienation as a full-time existence, with little or no chance of returning to society. His documentation of communes in Tulsa, where heavy drug use was more common than casual sex, pushed the boundaries of what was considered an acceptable subject for photographers and made Tulsa one of the most talked-about and significant books of the decade” (Gerry Badger in Koetzle). – „In his photography book Teenage Lust (1983), subtitle An Autobiography, Larry Clark uses a sharp, immediate style that is both lyrical and sensual to recount moments in his sex life between 1960 and 1970 in a hippie community in New Mexico, with friends, one-night-stands, drug-addicted prostitutes, and dealers.
