Elements such as painted lips and eyes, large earrings, and the masses of rings around the neck are hardly exotic or tropical – they are clearly inspired by fashion caricature of the forties (″Schoenenbergerli“). Strub spoils the reader with multitude of visual effects and inventions such as the animal-band which accompanies the tale and presents it as a ballad (″Schnitzelbank“).“ (M.
