Sehr seltene zweite argentinische Ausgabe der schön ausgestatteten Musikgeschichte des Wiener Dirigenten, Musikhistorikers und Komponisten Kurt Pahlen (1907-2003). Die erste Ausgabe erschien 1944. Die erste deutsche Ausgabe erschien 1947 in Zürich. – Pahlen „war Kapellmeister an der Volksoper Wien, Musikkritiker, musikalischer Leiter der Wiener Volkshochschule und beim Rundfunk. Zahlreiche internationale Gastspiele. Auf Gedichte von W. Miksch komponierte er sozialdemokratische Volkslieder wie Das Lied der blauen Blusen (1932, Nb. in MGÖ). P., der über die Schweiz 1939 nach Südamerika emigrierte (Exil), war in Buenos Aires Chefdirigent der Filarmonica Metropolitana und ab 1957 Direktor des Teatro Colón. Dazwischen war er in Rosario/RA und La Plata/RA tätig. 1949 ging er nach Montevideo, wo er 1957 Prof. für Musikgeschichte an der Univ. wurde. Wirkte danach in Zürich/CH am Opernstudio und gründete 1993 die K.-P.-Gesellschaft. Bekannt wurde P. v. a. durch jahrelange regelmäßige Rundfunksendungen (auch in Österreich) und populärwissenschaftliche Bücher. Dessen Enkel Rodrigo González (* 1977 Zürich/CH) ist als Komponist und Pianist tätig und lebt derzeit (2021) in Barcelona/E.“ (A. Rausch und M. A very rare second Argentine edition of the beautifully and lavishly appointed music history by the Viennese conductor, music historian, and composer Kurt Pahlen (1907–2003). The first edition appeared in 1944. The first German edition appeared in Zurich in 1947. – Pahlen „was a conductor at the Vienna Volksoper, a music critic, and musical director for the Vienna Adult Education Centre and in broadcasting. He undertook numerous international guest engagements. Setting poems by W. Miksch to music, he composed Social Democratic folk songs such as *Das Lied der blauen Blusen* (1932; cf. MGÖ). Pahlen, who emigrated to South America via Switzerland in 1939 (exile), served as chief conductor of the Filarmonica Metropolitana in Buenos Aires and, from 1957, as director of the Teatro Colón. In the interim, he was active in Rosario and La Plata (Argentina). In 1949, he moved to Montevideo, where he became a professor of music history at the university in 1957. He subsequently worked at the Opera Studio in Zurich and founded the Kurt Pahlen Society in 1993. Pahlen became widely known primarily through years of regular radio broadcasts (including in Austria) and popular-science books. His grandson Rodrigo González (b. 1977, Zurich) is active as a composer and pianist and currently (as of 2021) lives in Barcelona.“ (A. Rausch and M.
