Beide Eltern wurden unter der deutschen Besatzung nach Auschwitz deportiert und ermordet. Seine ersten Aktfotografien stammen aus dem Jahr 1939. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg machte er eindrucksvolle Aufnahmen von Paris und verschiedenen europäischen Städten, was ihm die Mitgliedschaft in der Bewegung der sogenannten humanistischen Fotografen (Robert Doisneau, Willy Ronis und Lucien Hervé) einbrachte. Das Hauptthema seiner Arbeit ist der weibliche Körper und er etablierte sich als einer der wichtigsten Aktfotografen Frankreichs.1953 bis 1977 war Barzilay Beamter bei der UNESCO. Die erste Einzelausstellung fand 1960 in der Société française de photographie statt. 1965 wurden seine Fotografien erstmals vom Mercure de France in „Les corps illuminés“ veröffentlicht. Barzilay war mit Rotraut, Yves Klein, Dominique und Paul Éluard, Brassaï, Pablo Neruda und Man Ray befreundet. – Schuber an den Kanten etwas berieben, schönes Exemplar. – First edition. – One of 100 num. Barzilay (1917-2015), born in Saliniki in Greece, lived in France from 1927. Both his parents were deported to Auschwitz under German occupation and murdered. His first nude photographs date from 1939. After the Second World War, he took impressive pictures of Paris and various European cities, which earned him membership of the movement of so-called humanist photographers (Robert Doisneau, Willy Ronis and Lucien Hervé). The main subject of his work is the female body and he established himself as one of the most important nude photographers in France. From 1953 to 1977, Barzilay was a UNESCO official. His first solo exhibition took place in 1960 at the Société française de photographie. In 1965, his photographs were published for the first time by the Mercure de France in “Les corps illuminés”. Barzilay was friends with Rotraut, Yves Klein, Dominique and Paul Éluard, Brassaï, Pablo Neruda and Man Ray. – Slipcase somewhat rubbed at the edges, fine copy.
